What are Assistive Technology Devices and Services?

Any product or piece of equipment used to maintain or improve the functional capabilities of people with disabilities is an Assistive Technology Device. Any service that helps an individual select, purchase or use an assistive technology device is an Assistive Technology Service.

Assistive Technology Device Loan and Demo Program
North Country Independent Living maintains a Loan & Demo program with over 700 pieces of Assistive Technology for individuals to try out. A wide variety of equipment is available, including kitchen aids, dressing aids, vision aids, communication aids, signaling devices, magnifiers, assistive listening devices, amplified phones, adaptive recreation aids, and other devices for increasing independence.
North Country Independent Living also has various adapted keyboard and computer mice, as well as assistive software for computer input and output. Most items available for loan to consumers for up to 30 days for try-out evaluation. Some items, such as computer software, are only available for demonstration.
